The hospitality industry across the globe is rapidly changing its dimension, starting from room management, order management, and service operations. At the same time, artificial intelligence is taking over the industries, including this industry. It is undoubtedly true that AI has become a popular buzzword, but not everything in the top hotels is managed by this technology. Not all are AI-powered. AI is often misunderstood and misused for the hospitality industry. Hence, a series of myths have been raised by people. Today we have come up with five such misconceptions. Myth 1: All Chatbots are AI-Driven
It is undeniably true that the chatbots and virtual assistants have become integral part in managing guest inquiries, room booking, and placing food-related orders in most of the hotels. But it is also important for us to make a clear picture of simple scripted chatbots and AI-powered virtual assistants. Virtual assistants deal with provide personalized response related to guest’s history and preferences, but basic chatbots cannot learn or do that. So, not all chatbots are artificial intelligence driven.
Myth 2: Data Analytics is identical with Artificial Intelligence
A group of people associated with the hospitality industry don’t often distinguish artificial intelligence and data analytics. Hence, it is often blurred. Data analytics provide valuable insights in operational efficiency and guest preferences, and it does that without ML or NLP. As usual, AI utilizes ML to predict the needs and discover the trends in guest behavior. So, data analytics is not considered as artificial intelligence.
Myth 3: Smart Devices Automatically Incorporate AI
Smart devices such as lighting systems, thermostats improve efficiency in hotel operations, but most of those depend on manual controls. However, AI integration stands that the smart devices learn from environment prompts and guest behaviors. They don’t need direct input as they automatically adjust settings for maximum benefit. Myth 4: Automation Equals AI in Scheduling
Have you heard about automated scheduling systems? Many people keep this myth that these systems are basically artificial intelligence. In actual, they are not! Yes it is true that these systems are efficient, but they do not have machine learning components. So, this is actually a myth.
Myth 5: Digital Tools and Smart Devices are all based on artificial intelligence
Most of the hotels have adopted digital tools along with the IoT devices. The hospitality industry is going digital by adopting the technologies like lighting systems, smart thermostats, and security mechanisms. Interestingly, the operation of smart devices based remote controls. Even though they don’t represent true AI, their power lies in autonomously learning from guest preferences and operational data.
